Windsurfing is a great sport which is relatively easy to learn if taught in the correct way at the correct venue. We think it is so easy that we GUARANTEE to refund your money if we can’t get you up and sailing in your first lesson. Decoy Lake is an ideal venue to learn to windsurf. It is a twelve acre freshwater lake set in beautiful country park surroundings. As a relatively small and sheltered venue, the water is always flat, resulting in a far more beginner friendly environment than the sea or an estuary. This all results in the learning experience being so much easier, more enjoyable and safer than learning on open tidal water. We are an RYA recognised centre and teach to the RYA syllabus. We use large boards with relatively small sails which are ideal for beginners. We currently offer the following courses:
Beginners’ Taster Session
This is a four hour lesson during which you will learn all of the basics. You will start off on our land based simulator before going afloat. By the end of the lesson you will be able to sail and steer your board.
This is a three hour session in which we take you a little further than the basics. By the end of this session you will be able to tack and gybe and sail your board wherever you choose on the lake. Also a great session for those that have not sailed in a while and just need useful pointers to help refresh their memory and/or restore confidence.
RYA Start Windsurfing Course (Formerly RYA Level 1)
This lasts approximatley 8 hours and is normally taught in two four hour sessions. At the end of your course you will be assessed and will hopefully attain your RYA start certificate. There is a certain amount of theory covered during the course. Your course fee includes RYA handbook and logbook in which you can record your progress. We will teach you the basics of windsurfing enabling you to sail to a chosen point on the lake and return to where you started from.
Youth Stage 1: All the fun with the minimum amount of theory. On completion you will be able to sail to a chosen point on the water and return to where you started. (normally taught in two 3 hour sessions)
Youth Stage 2: Learn to tack and gybe enabling you to make progress to and away from the wind. On completion you should be capable of sailing on all points of sailing. (normally taught in two 3 hour sessions)by
